Sound System Nights is a monthly party celebrating UK Reggae sound system culture, hosted by Lucky Cat with special guest selectors from the scene. Each month we will pay tribute to a different genre of Reggae music.
Tiny T is the son of Freddie Cloudburst who was one of the Jamaican sound system pioneers in London in the 1960s and mentored the great Jah Shaka! Freddie had a popular residency at Clouds nightclub in the heart of Brixton. Freddie also played at many sound system dances held at Brixton Town Hall. Tiny T played his first DJ set at his Christmas school party at the age of 11 where he was asked to bring the latest popular tunes from his dad's record box. Now some 40 years later he continues to be a cornerstone in revival music from Jamaica and the USA, and is highly respected by music historians all over the world.
Selectors Lucky Cat and Tiny T will play a selection of vintage Soul and Reggae, musical genres which are intertwined. Think of The Staple Singers 'I'll Take You There' which takes its riff from 'The Liquidator' by Harry J All Stars, 'One Love' by Bob Marley and The Wailers which was an adaptation of Curtis Mayfield's 'People Get Ready' and the many fantastic Reggae Soul covers.
The classic Blaxploitation movie 'Cotton Comes to Harlem' will be screened in the terrace area.
